Hoi An is CEF's closest town. It's an old historic town, with an interesting history, once having been a major trading port, as it was the producer of beautiful ceramics and silks, and many spices too, such as turmeric, cinnamon and pepper. It was the home to Japanese and Chinese traders, and migrants from China due to political unrest, who married local women and settled here.
Although only about a quarter of the children we provide sponsorships for are local it is a good place to be based. We head out from here most Sundays (except at Tet and in the summer holidays) in each direction to see our students to do updates in both Da Nang and in most districts of Quang Nam.
